Hawson of Yorkshire

Richard Hawson and his wife Jane lived at Torworth near Blyth, north Nottinghamshire. He died in 1621 leaving a son, Henry.

Henry Hawson also lived in Torworth, and was buried in Blyth in 1654. His children:

Thomas' son also Thomas Hawson b 1733 in Torworth, yeoman farmer married Hannah Kelk on 9 November 1762 at Tickhill after banns. Hannah had been baptised on 26 March 1744 at Tickhill. Their children:

Thomas Hawson (1765-1846), a farmer, married Hannah, daughter of farmer George Baxter of Awkley in 1792 at Finningley by license. Their children:

George Hawson (1793-1866) was born in Gildingwells, and baptised 1 October 1793 at Laughton-en-le-Morthen. He became a maltster and farmer at Wombwell near Barnsley, and married Mary Ann Richardson at Sheffield in 1816 by license. By 1851 they had 165 acres at Wombwell, employing 3 husbandry labourers and 2 general servants. Their children:

Thomas Hawson (1817-1855) was a farmer who in 1851 had 100 acres in Wombwell, employing 2 labourers. He had married Hannah Wood of Billingley on 10 October 1839 at Darfield. After his death, Hannah continued to farm, although by 1861 this had reduced to 70 acres.

George Hawson (1826-1869) was born in Wombwell. A farmer, land agent and valuer, he was married to Julia Garland of Netherwood Hall, by the Rev M Fearnley at Darfield on 4 October 1853. They lived at Hooton Roberts near Rotherham, where they farmed 175 acres in 1861, employing five labourers, a boy, and a dairy maid. At the time they also employed a governess and a housemaid. Jessie Hawson (1865-1940) married Charles Steers, a roofing contractor of Doncaster in 1883 at Doncaster. Charles built a bungalow in Bournemouth. They had 13 children, including:

Felicia Steers (1893-1975) b in Mexborough, married George Alfred Gibson, a miner, in 1920. Their children:

Renee Gibson married George Miles Thornton (1928-1998).
